Phonics Word Game for Dyslexia

A calm, see-and-hear reading game. A word appears on screen, and you can hear it read as a whole word, spelled out by letter name, or sounded out letter by letter. Built for dyslexic children and the tutors and parents who support them.

Letter sounds are pure recorded phonemes; the whole word and letter names use the selected voice.

How to use the game

  1. Pick a level, or type your own word in the box.
  2. Read the word together, then press Hear the word to check it.
  3. Use Letter names to spell it out, or Letter sounds to sound it out.
  4. Press New word to move on. There is no timer and no score.

Why letter names and letter sounds both matter

Reading draws on two related skills: knowing what a letter is called and knowing the sound it makes in a word. Naming the letters of "dog" gives "dee, oh, jee"; sounding them out gives the sounds that blend into the spoken word. Practising both, alongside hearing the whole word, supports decoding for dyslexic readers.

What is the phonics word game?
